Playing a Tournament

Playing in a golf tournament can be a great way to further enjoy the sport of golf while also improving your game.

There are typically two reasons why golfers compete in tournaments:

1. Competition

Have you been playing golf for awhile and consider yourself to be fairly skilled? Perhaps you want to take your game to the next level by playing competitively in a golf tournament.

Golf tournaments, either private, or course run, will match golfers of similar skill levels against one another in friendly competition. Winning in tournament play offers either cash prizes or golf prizes of some sort.

Competitive golf tournaments are a stepping stone for players wanting to move their game to the next level.

2. Just for Fun

Golf tournaments can also just be for amusement! Very often golf courses will hold open golf tournaments for their patrons. Entering a recreational golf tournament can be a fantastic way to have fun and meet new people who also enjoy playing golf.

Recreational golf leagues may also host their own tournaments.

Just because a tournament is solely for entertainment doesn’t mean that it won’t be challenging. If you are hoping to improve your golf game playing in fun tournaments is an excellent way to do this.

Non-competitive tournaments may also have prizes or rewards. Private tournaments may be played just for bragging rights.

Seeing how you play in a recreational golf tournament is an excellent way to meter your skills and see if you are ready to play more competitively.

3. For Charity

Charity golf tournaments are also very common. A charity golf tournament can be just for fun or competitive, but the purpose of it is usually to raise money for a specific cause. Playing in a golf tournament that is for charity can be a fantastic way to give back.

New to the game of golf? Anyone can play in a charity golf tournament.

Playing in golf tournaments is just one more way that golf enthusiasts can enjoy the game that they love. Tournaments typically take place at different times throughout the year and at various golf courses in the community. When you first begin playing in tournaments, look for one that suits your skill level. It can be a good idea to play the host course once or twice before playing in the tournament to familarize yourself with the course.

Whether you are wanting to play competitively or just for fun, a golf tournament can be a great time! Cottonwood Coulee Golf Course plays host to a variety of golf tournaments each year.
